HORROR 101: THE A-LIST OF HORROR FILMS AND MONSTER MOVIES  VOL 1

A KRYPTIC REPORT

After several days of rest, we have finally recuperated from the Cinema Wasteland convention.  Those of you who didn’t make it, you simply missed one hell of a show.  As I’m sure everybody knew, the show was put on and run by Ken & Pam of Video Wasteland.  These two have been dealers since the beginning of time, and have seen all the mistakes, screw-ups, and everything that can go wrong at a convention (and that was just at one Fangoria show).  So when doing this show, they wanted to make sure that it would be great for the dealers as well as the people spending their hard earned cash at the show.  And they did just that and more.

The show ran very smoothly.  As a dealer, we had a great set-up time.  Plenty of time to get everything ready.  If a problem did arise, the Wasteland staff was there right away to tackle it.  And they weren’t wearing any Star Trek outfits either.  The hotel was great.  None of these surprises when you get to your room and find that it is about the size of a walk in closet.

As a fan, I only wish that I could of spent a little bit more time wandering around the dealer’s room, plus hearing the Q&A sessions with the celebrities.  I really would of like to have heard the DAWN cast as well as Ted Mikels talk.  But that is the life of a dealer.  But for those who weren’t stuck behind a table, there was plenty to do and see.

There were 12 guest stars from DAWN OF THE DEAD at the show (See photo's below).  That’s right, 12!  From most of the main cast, to some very memorable zombies, bikers, and more.  All of them that I had a chance to meet were great, and happy to be there to meet the fans.

But that wasn’t the only guest stars there.  There were was Tom Sullivan, who was the main makeup effects artist for EVIL DEAD, as well as working on EVIL DEAD 2.  The little museum that was set up had tons of cool props, illustrations, and items from the movies.  Once again, not only do I wish that I could of spend more time in there, I wish I would of gotten some photos.  Maybe next time.

But there were many other celebs there too, such as Ted V. Mikels.  I must admit that I hadn’t seen any of films other than trailers and some interviews.  But after meeting him over the weekend, and seeing how he reacted to his fans just blew me away.  When a friend of mine went over there to get an autograph, Mikels stood up to shake his hand.  My friend mentioned that it was an honor to meet him.  Mikels replied, “No, it’s an honor to me you!”  Mikels' friendliness to his fans is amazing.

Then, just when the dealer room closes, and you think there’s nothing else to do, you’re wrong.  There were two screen rooms running til the wee hours of the morning.  One was a video room, while the other room was showing film prints of classic movies like THE GREEN SLIME, SHOCK WAVES, SQUIRM, MOTEL HELL, and of course DAWN OF THE DEAD.

So if you did miss out on this show, you really did miss out.  But don’t fret.  Ken is already planning the show for next year.  So make sure you’re not reading about that next show like you are about this one.  And if you were there, drop Ken and Pam an email and let them know what you thought.  See you next year.
