September 30th - October 2nd, 2005 Let's see....let me try and come up with something new to say about this last Cinema Wasteland show that we haven't said many times before.....hhmmmm.....they had tons of cool guests.....no, said that before.....we had so much fun that it shouldn't have been legal.....no, said that before too. Damn, I guess I'll just have to say the same things all over once again. Yes, this was the 8th show the Wasteland crew put on, and they are showing no signs of slacking off now. We have always had a great time at these shows, and this one was no different. Though we did have a new person riding on our way to the show this time out. Our buddy Dave from Liquid Cheese finally got around to making it out to the show, after many years of getting crap from both me and Ken, for never making it to one. And now after experiencing the Wasteland, Dave said he is now hooked, and will be joining us for the next April show. Yet another satisfied customer. So what makes this show so damn entertaining? I don't think I can explain that without repeating what I've said all along. This is not like any other show for us. It's like a family reunion. And while there's usually some troublemaker at those normal family reunions, we've never run into them here. No hassles here and always plenty of fun. This show had two main themes going on. It had the DAWN OF THE DEAD reunion, featuring 10 people from the classic film, including the 4 main leads. While the first Wasteland show was a DAWN reunion, at this show there were 4 guests that weren't at that first show. So anybody with some DAWN collectibles, had a great opportunity to add a few more signatures. We usually can't stay away from our table too long, so we usually just pop into the Q&A's sessions, take a few photos and pop back to our table. But when we tried to do that for the DAWN Q&A, it was so packed with the fans, that we could barely fit in there to get some photos. One of the other Q&A's that we did manage to stay a little longer than normal was the DEVIL'S REJECTS one, with Ken Foree, Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, and Michael Berryman. The reason we stayed longer was they were simple damn funny to listen to. From cracking jokes, to bitching about Lions Gate pulling REJECTS too soon from the theater, they were a riot to listen to. While we've had the chance to meet all of them at past shows, the one REJECTS guest that we hadn't met before was Steve Railsback. Granted, he just had a small role in the movie, Railsback has got a few genre credits under his belt. Probably the most known is that the role of Charlie Manson in HELTER SKELTER. While I'm not a big fan of the whole Manson thing, I have to say that Railsback gave one hell of a performance in that. Of course, we've always enjoyed his role in LIFEFORCE. Though, once we found out that he was charging $20 to sign your own item, I must say that my admiration of him dropped a few notches.
So once again, the 6-hour trip out to the wastelands of Ohio was more than well worth it. Just like the last time, we've had a blast at the show. I guess that is the two things that we can always count on....having a good time and planning on being at the next show. STEVE RAILSBACK
