HORROR 101: THE A-LIST OF HORROR FILMS AND MONSTER MOVIES  VOL 1

We almost didn’t do this show this year when they raised dealer tables from $200 to $300 a table.  That’s pretty damn steep if you ask me.  Granted, there are a lot of people coming through the door, but that still does seem a bit high.  But none the less, since we did have such great time last year, we decided to cough up the money and give it another try.

Overall, we did have great time.  There were some low points the first half of the show, when nobody seemed to want to buy reference books.  But that’s another story (see our Kryptic Rambling).  But by the end of the show, we had done okay.  I must say that it was a very crowded show.  There were times when the aisles were so packed that we couldn’t see the table across from us.  So that’s not a bad thing.

They also had a pretty large guest lineup, with George Romero headlining.  The autograph line for Romero was averaging around 4 hours, which blew me away.  I have had the chance to see Romero on several occasions, so it wasn’t a big deal for me.  But apparently, he hasn’t made that many appearances on the east coast.  So it was cool that the Father of the Dead was still drawing that big of a crowd.

Another couple of guys who always seemed to have a big line were Sid Haig and Bill Moseley.  I’m sure that most of these fans were because of HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES.  But I’m glad that Haig is getting the attention and recognition that he’s deserved for well over 20 years.  It’s just too bad that most of those people in line probably don’t know that he’s made any movies before HOUSE....(once again, see our Kryptic Ramblings).  They were there promoting THE DEVIL’S REJECTS, which is expected to be released early next year.  Sitting between them was Irwin Keyes, who played Ravelli in HOUSE, not to mention some other great roles in some older movies.  Like Moseley and Haig, Keyes is very friendly and is great to meet.

Most all of the celebs were charging $15 to sign your own item.  This seems to be the way of the future, since most of these all have the same agent booking them into these conventions.  I guess I should just get over it.  It’s kind of a like the same old argument of not liking something on TV…”don’t like it, then don’t watch it.”  Though I still think its wrong….

But I will say that the celebs that I did go up to, all were very friendly and talkative.  I would assume that they would be since we’re paying them….Oops…there I go again.  Okay, enough.  There were a few that were truly nice to talk to and seemed very happy to meet their fans.  So that was very cool.  Ashley Lawrence, from the HELLRAISER films, not only looked great, but was extremely nice to her fans, chatting with them, posing with them, and really making a lot of fans happy, including me.  Adrienne Barbeau was another one that was incredibly nice to her fans.  When getting a still from THE FOG signed that already had been signed by Carpenter, she asked me when I met him and talked a few minutes about him.  A very nice lady.

Plus, it’s always nice to see our other dealer friends that we only get to see at these types of shows, and also make new friends.  That’s probably one of the best parts of these shows….being around very like-minded people.  And of course, there’s always tons of stuff to buy…I mean invest in, and add to the collection.

Don’t know if we’ll be doing this show next year with those table prices, but will probably be there as fans, depending on what guests they get.  We’ll just have to wait and see.  Enjoy the photos!
