CINCINNATI This was our second time to the fine city of Cincinnati, for the HorrorHound Weekend. This would also be our last stop on the 2010 Kryptic World Tour, one that had seen us at many different conventions and film fests throughout this year. All ranging in size and content, but is something that we look to each and every time. Why? So we can be in our true element. So we can be around tons of like-minded film fans. So we can escape reality for a few hours or days, and just have a great time. And this show was no different. Well…sort of.
This show was a real turning point for me. Now for me, the shows are going to be about seeing old friends, making new ones, checking out the dealer rooms and Q&A panels. I’m still going up to the celebrities to talk to them, letting them know I’m a fan of their work, but without any intention of buying anything. Not going to be rude or anything, but for most of them, paying them a compliment will be the only paying that I will be doing. But enough of the whining….let us get to the rest of the report. This time in Cincinnati, they had the dealer’s room broken up into two separate rooms. But since they had the celebs split between these two rooms, there was enough traffic moving through both of the rooms to make all the dealers happy. They also seemed to have a pretty good variety of dealers as well too. That is always a good thing. The big draw for me was the RE-ANIMATOR reunion. After all these years going to shows, I had never had the chance to meet Bruce Abbott. He was definitely one signature that I felt that I needed on my RE-ANIMATOR poster that I’ve been filling up over the years. Same goes with Richard Band, who has contributed so many film scores, including as one of my favorites, FROM BEYOND. And of course, let’s not forget Peter Kent, who plays the re-animated corpse Melvin. Also joining the reunion was Jeffrey Combs and from BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR was Kathleen Kinmont. We were in there for a good chunk of the Q&A session, which was just hilarious. The stories were great, especially Kent’s about watching RE-ANIMATOR in an empty theater with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It would have been nice if the rest of the cast was able to share more of their stories, since it seemed like Jeffrey Combs was on the mike most of the time. Maybe because he is on the convention circuit a lot, he’s just more comfortable.
The only other Q&A panel that I was at was the HALLOWEEN 4 reunion, which featured Danielle Harris, Kathleen Kinmont, Sasha Jenson, Erik Preston, and George Wilbur. Even though Harris did most of the talking, it was still an entertaining Q&A session. I did talk with Caroline Williams for a few minutes, giving her a Mexican lobby card that featured her hanging from a rope. Nice sentiments, huh? She is just a sweetheart and always so nice and friendly to her fans. We just love seeing her at the shows. Next to Caroline was Jull Scholelen, who I must say still looks fantastic. She seemed to be having a great time there. Also by them was Meg Foster, who has been in so many different genre titles that it can boggle your mind. We briefly walked by Malcolm McDowell’s table as well as Julian Sands table just so we could say that we seen them. I’d seen McDowell at previous show, and had no intention of paying what they were charging for a signature, so I just smiled and walked by. Like every show, especially the HorrorHound ones, we always have a good time. That is mainly due to all our friends that we are hanging out with throughout the weekend. Joe & Jenn from Turntabling.net, Don & Nina from Slaughter Lamb Studios, Gore artist Putrid, Matt Moore and his incredible baking-machine of a wife Suzie, who kept us more than full with all the baked goods that she brought for us. God…can still smell those strawberry cookies…..And of course, a huge thanks to Jeremy, Aaron, and Nathan for making these little fun get-togethers happen twice a year. Can’t wait until March when we head to Indy to do it all over again.
