HORROR 101: THE A-LIST OF HORROR FILMS AND MONSTER MOVIES  VOL 1

"I would write that Paul Naschy had at least done his best and that he cared about what he was doing.  I was capable of mistakes - to do it well or to do it poorly - but I assure you is that I did it with feeling and affection.  I love the fantastic cinema."

Jacinto Molina, aka Paul Naschy, is one of those rare genre filmmakers that has always been a true fan of the genre.  Never one to try to make the type of film that might popular at the time; he always wanted to make horror films.  Throughout his life and career, Molina has always had the passion for the genre.  Molina wasn’t just satisfied with just acting in the films either.  Molina has also been behind the camera as director many times, not to mention writing some of them as well.

Molina wasn’t worried about being ‘typecast’ in the horror genre as many actors are deathly afraid of.  In fact, Molina has played one of his favorite characters, that of the cursed lycanthrope Waldemar Danisky, in a total of eleven films!  And most all of these films were made well before the sequel craze of the 80’s.  Molina loved this character so much that he wanted to return to him, time and time again.  And his fans were welcoming each of these new entries.

Are all of his films classics?  Of course not.  But what you find in each of those films is that same passion for the genre.  But then, in his massive filmography, there are many classic films.  Titles such as NIGHT OF THE HOWLING BEAST, HUNCHBACK OF THE MORGUE, HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB, and of course the first appearance of Danisky, MARK OF THE WOLFMAN.  Molina just didn’t stick to the werewolf genre either.  In his films, you also run across mummies, vampires, zombies, cannibals, and many other nasty characters.

For a fan of the old time Universal films, but with a new twist and style added to them, you will enjoy his films.
